BEBET: A Woman of Privilege, Substance, and Heart
Ramona "Bebet" Benitez McClelland is the third of nine children and she hails from the illustrious Benitez clan of the Philippines. Their family has left a strong legacy in the Philippines and Bebet continues to build on what her forebearers started.
She prefers to just be in the background, unrecognized and just a quiet worker, but I could not let this day pass without honoring her for her big heart and generous support of our initiatives that help the poor in the last 20 years or so.
How a Couple's Simple “YES” Made Someone’s Hope Real
Back in June 2016, GKONOMICS asked Bong & Mia Macatula of Orange County, California, USA if they wanted to sponsor a GKONOMICS scholar named Romeo Cuyacot from GK Sunshineville in Las Pinas, Philippines. Romeo's father, Jun, is a tricycle driver and was the President of the GK Kapitbahayan while his mother, Chona, is one of the artisan weavers working in the GK Sunshineville community enterprise supported by GKONOMICS.
“YES, we will sponsor Romeo,” replied Mia and Bong. “Thank you for thinking of us!”.
Cherie Woo and her family have been dependable supporters of many worthwhile causes. She has been consistently donating to GK and GKONOMICS for over a decade and have sponsored scholars in the GKONOMICS Scholarship Program.
Thanks to the COURAGE of a multitude of parties, these three young men who three years ago had very little hope and only bleak futures ahead of them, now have good jobs and very bright futures.
A wedding and a birthday in 2017 changed two families forever . . . and they were not the celebrants!
A celebration of 50 years of marriage of Bayani and Ricelle Cabrera (fondly termed "BayRich@50) turned into even a more meaningful celebration when the couple decided to donate their gifts to the GKONOMICS Scholarship Program.
Thanks to the generosity of topnotch lawyers Arsenio “Che” Cabrera, Jr. and Mary Rogelyn “Lyn” Cabrera, a young man from GK Keppel Village in Batangas City now has a better chance to succeed in life.
Che and Lyn are longtime partners in the law firm of Herrera, Teehankee and Cabrera and an added bonus is that Che is also a “Batangueno” like his scholar!
“This is a humble way for me to give back and help break the cycle of poverty for someone who will not otherwise have an opportunity to study. I like the GKONOMICS program with Dualtech,” says Atty. Cabrera.
